Cross Country FALL 2016
The Quincy Track Club Cross Country program began as the brainchild of Geoff Hennessy and Harry Williams (Quincy High ’76) after seeing other clubs involved in the fall distance running programs offered by the Road Runners Club of New York and the New England AAU. The program began humbly with practices a few days a week meeting at the front of North Quincy High or the “Adams Rock” in front of Adams Field. The club then sponsored weekly Saturday morning races at Pageant field. The club settled in on twice weekly practices at the stadium and involvement with the still running “Kids Races” at D.W. Field park in Brockton.
The Club’s current program is held Mondays and Wednesdays starting wednesday, September 7, 2016 up at Pageant Field. Hours are 6-7pm. Cost is $50 per child. Children ages 5-14 are invited.
Workouts consist of a warm up set a drills and three runs around the circumference of Pageant field with a timed rest.
Club members participate in the Brockton Kids’ races, Boston Parks Series, The BAA/Boston Mayor’s Cup and Junior Olympics. Participation continues to hover around 30 kids for the program.
Coaches are Geoff and Capt. Kirk Vaughan.
This year the program will begin on September 7, 2015
